Tropicália is the first ever large-scale environmental installation by talented New York City-based artist and designer Jenna Snyder-Phillips. Inspired by her extensive travel across Brazil, the 19 foot high sight-specific mural marks the most ambitious project by Snyder-Phillips to date.
From the Amazon rainforest to the more than 6,500 species of plants in the Jardim Botânico in Rio de Janeiro, the natural landscapes of Brazil are among the most striking and inspiring in the world. For her first collaboration with Urby, Snyder-Phillips hopes to bring a bit of that natural beauty to Stamford. “One of the most amazing things about Brazil is all of the wildly beautiful and unusual flora and fauna that simply doesn’t exist anywhere else on the planet,” says Snyder-Phillips. “Transporting viewers to a tropical oasis, my goal was to create a soothing and exotic environment that allows Urby residents to feel at home and enjoy Brazil’s natural beauty all year long.”
The name Tropicália pays homage to the expression and cultural creativity of the Brazilian music movement of the 1960s (also known as Tropicalismo). Mixing Brazilian tradition and foreign styles, the beat of the music directly connects to Snyder-Phillips’ movement as a painter.
